Children’s Hospice Week

This is Children’s Hospice Week (22-28 June 2020) – the only week in the year dedicated to raising awareness and funds for children’s hospices and palliative care services across the UK.

Events of this year have been the toughest time many of us have ever faced. For families who care for seriously ill children it has meant that they feel more alone than ever. CHaL hospices have been adjusting to new ways to care and support families who need them.

CHaL is here to support all London children’s hospices so that they can be there for families who care for seriously ill children. Children’s hospices are a vital lifeline to families. Hospices are where families can feel safe, supported and access the specialist care they need when there really is nowhere else to turn.

Children’s hospices need your support to be able to continue to support families long into the future.

Get involved in Children’s Hospice Week and stay in touch with your local hospice in London. Find out how you can support them or stay in touch.

CHaL is a group of six hospices that support children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families. The hospices are active across all 33 London boroughs and parts of the home counties – our hospices can help manage a child’s symptoms and give families short breaks, as well as offering end-of-life care and bereavement support.

Children’s Hospices across London welcomes Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cambridge’s message of support to mark Children’s Hospice Week 2019 Monday 17 June 2019

Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cambridge has sent a message of support to celebrate and mark Children’s Hospice Week. Children’s Hospices across London (CHaL) is one of the charities joining The Duchess to mark Children’s Hospice Week and is delighted that The Duchess has sent a special message of support, shining a light on children’s hospices and showing how they help children, young people and families to make the most of their precious time.

In an excerpt from the message, The Duchess says:

“Children’s hospices provide vital sanctuaries for those experiencing the very toughest of times. They help families and carers build life long memories that are poignant, happy and often filled with laughter.

They provide a lifeline to children and families for however long support is needed and I hope that others join me in thanking them as we shine a light on their work during Children’s Hospice Week.”

The message comes as a survey, conducted for Children’s Hospice Week (17-23 June), found that 20% of the British public do not know what children’s hospices are. Children’s Hospice Week’s ambition is to raise awareness of what children’s hospices mean to seriously ill children and families, to celebrate the lifeline care they provide and show how they support families to make precious memories. It’s hoped that by changing perceptions around children’s hospices that more families caring for seriously ill children seek help from their local hospice.

Mike Palfreman, CHaL spokesperson, said, “We are thrilled that HRH The Duchess of Cambridge is helping to raise awareness of children’s hospice care by marking Children’s Hospice Week 2019. Children’s Hospice Week is a chance for us to raise awareness of the amazing work of children’s hospices across London. Our hospices exist to help children and their families live life as fully as possible. We look beyond a child’s medical needs and create environments where they can be children, not just patients. During Children’s Hospice Week, we encourage people to find out more about their local children’s hospice and how they can support us.”

Children’s Hospice Week (17-23 June) is run annually and is the UK’s only awareness and fundraising week benefiting children’s hospices and the families they support. The aim of the week is to raise awareness of the support we provide and to dispel myths and misconceptions about children’s hospice care.

CHaL launch their shiny new website! July 2018

CHaL are excited to launch their new website www.chal.org.uk. The new website has been designed and developed by NU Creative, an award-winning branding and design agency based in London, on a pro bono basis. NU Creative have also been behind the total rebranding of CHaL which has given CHaL a brighter, fresher feel, demonstrating children in London at the heart of what we do. Mike Palfreman, Chair of CHaL explains, “Our previous website was uninspiring, and we were unable to update it ourselves. Our new website is much more dynamic and easy to navigate. We believe that having a fabulous new brand and fully functioning, informative and engaging website, will lay the foundations for CHaL to increase awareness of children’s hospice care across London. We are incredibly grateful for the support and guidance that NU Creative have given us – their creativity, professionalism, patience and ability to understand exactly what we have needed has been remarkable.” Tim Lindsay, Managing Director at NU Creative comments, “The work CHaL does is not only inspirational, it’s much needed. The decision to support them was easy and it’s our privilege to be involved. We’ve had a hugely enjoyable and rewarding experience working closely with them to help reinvigorate the brand identity, brand collateral and website. We feel honoured to have been a part of the journey and to have played an important role in helping CHaL to visualise their impressive brand story.” We’re really pleased with our new website, and we really hope that you like what you see too.
